An aspect of internet marketing that is rarely available with traditional marketing is the ability to measure and track results. With online marketing, your business can utilize varying tools for tracking results of your advertising campaigns. Using these tools, not only can you measure and track but also illustrate the progress of your marketing campaign in detailed graphics.
The Internet provides an important platform for building relationships with customers and increasing customer retention levels. When a customer has purchased a product from your online store, you can begin the relationship by sending a follow-up email to confirm the transaction and thank the customer. Emailing customers regularly with special, personalized offers helps to maintain the relationship. You can also invite customers to submit product reviews on your website, helping to build a sense of community.

The holidays are always interesting for me SEO-wise. Every few years, I receive an SOS from a site owner right around Christmas Day based on a weird drop in traffic or rankings from Google. This year, it was on December 27 from a company I helped several years ago. It’s a large-scale site that has seen a lot of volatility historically, but has done a good job at turning things around. They have battled major algorithm updates in the past, and now battle new SERP features from Google itself.
Companies often use email marketing to re-engage past customers, but a “Where’d You Go? Want To Buy This?” message can come across as aggressive, and you want to be careful with your wording to cultivate a long-term email subscriber. This is why JetBlue’s one year re-engagement email works so well -- it uses humor to convey a sense of friendliness and fun, while simultaneously reminding an old email subscriber they might want to check out some of JetBlue’s new flight deals.

The ultimate goal of digital marketing is to make your business more money. One of the most powerful tools marketers now use to achieve that is marketing personalization. While Derek Halpern’s blog about growing an online business, Social Triggers, doesn’t have marketers as its primary target audience (that would be online business owners), nonetheless it’s a good blog for marketers to follow. Since a big part of running a successful online business is digital marketing, plenty of his posts tackle suggestions on how to do it well.

Depending on your niche of focus, blogs will open you up to a world of opportunities that are just a click away. A disadvantage of digital advertising is the large amount of competing goods and services that are also using the same digital marketing strategies. For example, when someone searches for a specific product from a specific company online, if a similar company uses targeted advertising online then they can appear on the customer's home page, allowing the customer to look at alternative options for a cheaper price or better quality of the same product or a quicker way of finding what they want online.

When done well, digital advertising offers limitless opportunities to reach and engage audiences. The key is using high-quality ads on reputable platforms. When you combine digital marketing with motion and sound on a powerful platform, your marketing messages leap off the screen. High impact ad units grab consumer attention, engaging them fully, encouraging interaction, and […]
Below, I’ll take you through the timeline, with data and screenshots, to show you how Google treated the problem. Note, every site is different, so this may not apply to all performance problems you run into. But, it should help you understand how those performance problems could impact crawling, indexing, and ranking. It’s also worth noting that the duration of performance problems would surely impact this situation. For this case, the site owner and CTO completely fixed the problem within seven days. But, it wasn’t all fixed at one time. More on that soon. Last, I unfortunately don’t have logs from the site yet. I’m still working on getting them, though, and will update this post if I do.
Just two days after Christmas, I received a message from the site owner asking if there was some type of update over the holidays. Traffic dipped sharply on Christmas Day, which it typically wouldn’t do based on their niche, and had gone down more and more since. Traffic typically only goes down by about 20% on Christmas Day and it was down 50% this year. That’s typically not the case from a historical perspective for the site and they were worried that an algorithm update impacted the site again.
